The Art of Intuitive Photography with Mindy Véissid

21 & 22 July, 2012  Register for this class

A special two-day workshop with guest photographer/instructor, Mindy Véissid (assistant instructor: Matt Anderson)

ViewFinder is thrilled to offer Mindy’s Art of Intuitive Photography workshop for the second time. Back by popular demand, the Art of Intuitive Photography is Mindy Véissid a unique two-day workshop in which we discover how to focus and tap into our own visual intuition, learn to see better, improve our image composition, and cultivate a way of shooting with a clear, free mind, opening ourselves up the photo opportunities which are abundant in everyday life.

On this two-day workshop, Mindy will guide the group through exercises that help us to see what is all around us - and photograph it. Mindy will provide personal guidance on how to improve image composition and capture the elusive moments that we know we’re missing. Leave the technical photography jargon behind and engage the right-side of your photographer brain on this fun and unique course.

With discussions, exercises and shooting assignments, you’ll learn to tune you into your intuition and how to take photos by following that intuition. You’ll discover the differences between looking, observing and seeing. Throughout the class, Mindy and Matt will give feedback on how to improve the composition of your photos. By the end of the day, you will not only be looking at the world differently, but you will have better photographs to show for it!

This workshop is open to all photography levels and all digital cameras (including point and shoot). This is not a technical class, but instructors will be able to provide support to those who request help, and is very much a ‘learn-by-doing’ workshop.

Saturday 21 July: (10:00 - 12:15, lunch at Manta Bar, 13:00 - 17:30)

Mindy will start with a presentation on the Art of Intuitive Photography. After a lunch break she’ll provide guidance on developing a compositional approach. Matt will discuss photographing strangers and striking a balance between photographer rights and being respectful to your subjects. Later in the afternoon we’ll take to the streets of Winterthur with several shooting assignments designed to help you develop your intuition for your photography. Mindy and Matt will be on hand to offer guidance thoughout.  We’ll wrap up on Saturday with some group Q&A and discussion about Sunday’s agenda.

Sunday 22 July: (11:00 - 12:30, 30 minute break - sack lunch, 13:00 - 16:00)Photo by Mindy Véissid

The day will kick off with a digital workflow presentation by Mindy covering aspects of image importing, cropping, and optimizing in Adobe Lightroom. Moderate retouching and file exporting will also be discussed. Students will then import, sort and rate their own images from the previous day’s shooting exercises. After a short lunch break (please bring your own lunch) we’ll get into rating, adjusting, and retouching our own images. The course will conclude with a group slideshow and constructive feedback session in the late afternoon.

About Mindy Véissid

Mindy Véissid, a native New Yorker, grew up surrounded by lights, shadow and movement. Her photos reflect not only this, but also incorporate her creative background in painting and writing. She uses metaphor, texture and composition to enhance her images. She has been called an “intuitive photographer,” in that she shoots from her heart, capturing candid, true and fleeting moments. In her ‘Art of Intuitive Photography’ workshops, she helps other photographers discover – and follow – their own intution.

Before becoming an international fine art photographer in 2009, Mindy worked in the corporate world and found herself living in Luxembourg and Switzerland for six years. She moved back to the U.S. in 2007, and currently resides in New York City. Read more about Mindy and view her portfolio at: www.mindyveissid.com.
