Understanding how to work with light is the key to taking unique and interesting photographs. The word ‘photography’ translates literally to ‘writing with light’. Lighting is the foundation of all photography and learning to work with and manipulate light is an important step in the development of every photographer. In this class you will learn techniques for working in natural (outdoor) and available (indoor) lighting situations and how to take control of your lighting to create unique and interesting images through hands-on exercises and instructor guidance.

You will learn:

• How light works: The theory and physics of lighting and how to manipulate it to your advantage.
• Do-it-yourself techniques: Learn how you can make your own, inexpensive lighting modifiers to help you control the light.
• Practical techniques: Practice what you learn outside and in our studio under the supervision and guidance of the instructor.

Class Format: Hands-on, interactive learning, taught by a working professional photographer.
Class Time: 10:30 - 17:30
Experience Level: Beginner
Class fee: CHF 325* per person
Location: ViewFinder Center - ZURICH studio  (map)
Class size: Minimum of 6 students, maximum of 10.
Class Requirements:

• A digital SLR camera, a zoom lens is recommended but not required.
• Participants should be familiar with their camera and be able to set exposure, white balance and focus controls.
• Come prepared to shoot: Don’t forget your charged camera batteries and make sure you have rolom on your memory card.

Course Outline

Morning Session:
Intro to natural and available lighting theory, DIY gear and techniques.

We will take a short lunch break between sessions. (The cost of lunch is not included in the class fee).
 
Afternoon Session:
Hands-on outdoor and studio sessions
The outdoor and studio sessions allow you the opportunity to practice lighting techniques under the supervision of the instructor. Students will work together in teams to create unique portraits. The instructor will provide individual feedback and guidance throughout the session.

Final Review session:
We close the day with a review of the images produced during the day and Q&A.

More than 20 days before event: Full refund
10 - 20 days before the event: CHF 75 cancellation fee
Less than 10 days prior to the event and no-shows: No refund
