This three-part course is perfect for you if you have just started using a dSLR camera (Digital Single Lens Reflex - a camera with changeable lenses) or if you’ve been using your dSLR for awhile but still are struggling with how to get consistently good images.
Each course in the series offers a friendly, hands-on approach to improving your photos and learning basic photography skills with your dSLR camera.

DSLR 1-Camera Basics:
Getting to know your DSLR
No prerequisite or photographic experience necessary.
- Understanding how DSLRs work
- Common dSLR features and recommended accessories
- Making the most of automatic features and shooting modes
- Finding a good position for stable image
- Composition for maximum effect
DSLR 2-Starter Techniques: Taking Control of your DSLR
You should be familiar with your camera’s functions and controls.
- Controlling exposure for different situations
- Using Program, Tv, Av and Manual modes
- Making sense of your camera displays
- How to choose the best lens for your shooting subject
- What accessories do you need - Tripods, Memory Cards, Filters, etc.
DSLR 3-Creative Techniques: Advanced Features, Lenses & Post-processing
You have some experience using manual settings.
- How-to use selective focus/depth of field
- How to use white balance settings
- Metering and Exposure techniques: Silhouettes, Backlit subjects, High-/Low-Key
- Controlling focus to isolate your subject
- Customizing settings

Course Format: Hands-on, interactive learning, taught by a working professional photographer.
Course Time: 10:30 - 17:30
Experience Level: Beginner
Course fee*: CHF 275 per person/per single day course
CHF 775 for the complete three-part series, a CHF 50 savings.
Location: ViewFinder Center - WINTERTHUR Classroom (map)
Requirements: A digital SLR camera.
Course size: Minimum of 6 students, maximum of 12.

Because every camera is different, we ask that participants review their camera manual before the course and come prepared, able to locate the buttons and menu selections on their own camera. We’ll show you how to use these features and settings.
*Note: Course fee does not include lunch. We will take a lunch break and each participant will be responsible for the cost of their own meal.
