Getting Started: dSLR Photography for Beginners

This one-day class is perfect for you if you have just started using a dSLRcamera (Digital Single Lens Reflex - a camera with changeable lenses) or if you’ve been using your dSLR for awhile but still are struggling with how to get consistently good images. Our class offers a friendly, hands-on approach to learning basic photography using a dSLR camera.
You’ll learn:
- Common dSLR features and recommended accessories
- How-to control exposure for different situations
- How-to use selective focus/depth of field
- Composition for maximum effect

Class Format: Hands-on, interactive learning, taught by a working professional photographer.
Class Time: 10:30 - 17:30
Experience Level: Beginner
Class fee: CHF 300* per person
Location: ViewFinder Center - ZURICH studio (map)
Class size: Minimum of 6 students, maximum of 12.
Requirements: A digital SLR camera.
If you have not yet purchased a dSLR camera, but would like to “try before you buy” we can provide a rental camera for an additional CHF 30.

Course Outline:
1. Gear Guide
- Understanding how DSLRs work
- How to choose the best lens for your shooting subject
- What accessories do you need - Tripods, Memory Cards, Filters, etc.
2. Taking Pictures
- Finding a good position for stable images
- How to use white balance settings
- Controlling exposure with Program, Tv, Av and Manual modes
- Exposure techniques: Silhouettes, Backlit subjects, High-/Low-Key
- Controlling focus to isolate your subject
- Composition techniques
Because every camera is different, we ask that participants review their camera manual before the class come prepared, able to locate the buttons and menu selections on their own camera. We’ll show you how to use these features and settings.

Cancellation: If you are unable to attend please contact us by email or telephone as soon as possible. Refunds are based on the date we receive your cancellation notice:
More than 20 days before event: Full refund
10 - 20 days before the event: CHF 75 cancellation fee
Less than 10 days prior to the event and no-shows: No refund
